Prosecution demands ban on İMC TV's satellite broadcasting

Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office sent a written notice to satellite broadcasting (Türksat) and demand İMC TV's frequency is suspended with the claim that it makes propaganda for terrorist organizations. News Coordinator Faruk Eren said, “This is what happened, while we are rejoicing the release of Gül and Dündar. The situation of the freedom of press and expression in Turkey is miserable.”

Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office Investigation Bureau for Crimes against the Constitutional Order demand İMC TV's frequency is suspended with the claim that it makes propaganda for PKK/KCK.

On February 24, a written notice was sent to Türksat by Public Prosecutor Ramazan Dinç and it is stated that an investigation against İMC TV is opened upon a complaint made to the crime report line 155.

Prosecutor Dinç stated that Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTÜK) demanded the records of İMC TV's broadcasts between May 3 and September 14 and prepared an expert report, which is sent to Türksat with the transcript of IMC TV broadcasts on July 6, 13, 14 and August 6.

IMC TV Broadcast Coordinator Faruk Eren spoke to Agos.

“We expect to continue broadcasting. Unfortunately, this is not a first for us. Prosecutor's Office acts like RTÜK. And we also found out that there is an investigation against İMC TV. We know what these investigations mean in Turkey. This is what happened, while we are rejoicing the release of Gül and Dündar. The situation of the freedom of press and expression in Turkey is miserable.”

“Türksat is a business organization and we have an agreement. We meet the requirements of that agreement. Being removed from Türksat means being unable to broadcast in Turkey. We are discussing with our lawyers what we can do about it.”
