“Turkish song” censor to Collectif Medz Bazar
Collectif Medz Bazar was going to perform in the concert for commemorating Armenian Genocide in Arnouville city near Paris. However, they decided not to perform, after the organization requested not to perform their Turkish songs. The band reacted against this situation with a letter.
Censorship spreads to websites: Özgür Radyo, Hayatın Sesi and IMC TV blocked
Almost 12 TV and radio channels, including Hayatın Sesi TV, Denge TV, Jiyan TV, Zarok TV and Van TV, has been dropped from TURKSAT. Among these dissident media organs, there are also channels that broadcast in Kurdish. Now, news portals of Özgür Radyo, Hayatın Sesi and IMC TV are also blocked.
Prosecution demands ban on İMC TV's satellite broadcasting
Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office sent a written notice to satellite broadcasting (Türksat) and demand İMC TV's frequency is suspended with the claim that it makes propaganda for terrorist organizations. News Coordinator Faruk Eren said, “This is what happened, while we are rejoicing the release of Gül and Dündar. The situation of the freedom of press and expression in Turkey is miserable.”
Statement from Bilgi University academicians against censorship of Genocide Conference
100 Istanbul Bilgi University academicians have released a statement upon the administrative blocking of the conference titled ‘Armenian Genocide: Concepts and Comparative Perspectives’, declaring that they considered the blocking of the conference unacceptable in terms of academic and democratic freedoms.
