Former Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah gives statement

In the inquiry regarding public officials in relation to the assassination of Agos Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, former Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah is currently providing his statement as a suspect.

Within the scope of the continuing investigation into the murder of Agos Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, the Bakırköy 8th High Criminal Court had lifted the verdict of non-prosecution for former Istanbul Deputy Governor Ergun Güngör, former Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah and former Istanbul Police Directorate Intelligence Branch Chief Ahmet İlhan Güler.

The Ministry of Justice also rejected the prosecutor’s ‘appeal for the sake of law’, thus enabling the investigation of the aforementioned public officials. Istanbul Public Prosecutor Yusuf Hakkı Doğan then initiated the procedure for the taking of their statements.

Cerrah had previously stated an excuse

Celalettin Cerrah had responded previously to the subpoena of the court by stating the excuse that his lawyer was abroad, and had requested a future date to provide his statement.
