from Kocaeli University and 3 academics from Abant İzzet Baysal University are

Speaking to
Agos, lawyer Elvan Olkun from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Kocaeli
Branch said that 12 academics are taken up to now. Stating that academics in
Kocaeli were taken from their houses or from the university early in this
morning, Olkun also said that some academics who came to Kocaeli from Istanbul
for supporting their colleagues were also detained.
She stated
that detained academics are in Kocaeli Provincial Directorate of Security.
According to Bolu Olay newspaper's report, houses of Dr. Ülkü Güney, Assoc. Prof. Selime Güzelsarı and Prof. Dr. Barış Kılıçbay were raided this morning.
As part of
the investigation carried by Kocaeli Public Prosecutor's Office, detention
orders were issued for 21 academics on the ground that “they openly insulted
Turkish nation, Turkish state, Turkish parliament, Turkish government and
judicial bodies of the state” and “made propaganda for the terrorist
organization.”
