Armenian courts keep still about the femicides
After the brutal murder that was committed in Armenia a few days ago, the country started to discuss violence against women and the attitude of police forces and the courts toward femicides.
Femicides are also at serious level in Armenia
Volodya Muradyan, who murdered his wife Diana 3 years ago stabbing her 21 times in front of her children, sentenced to 3 years in prison. Member of 'Society Without Violence', Sona Hovakimyan talked about Diana case and domestic violence in Armenia.
No justice for Diana
Diana Nahabedyan was killed by her husband in Armenia 3 years ago and the murder trial is ended. Murder suspect Volodya Muradyan is sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison, because of unjust provocation abatement.
Ruling on Özgecan case: penal servitude for life
On February 11, Özgecan Aslan was killed by the people on the minibus she got on. Yesterday, the court made the ruling on her case and Ahmet Suphi Altındöken, Fatih Gökçe and Necmettin Altındöken were sentenced to penal servitude for life.
“This data provides a way to prevent femicide”
In Turkey, where at least 1134 women were murdered between 2010 and 2015, “dying the hair”, “buying new clothes”, “not cooking meatballs”, “not passing the salt” or just “being annoyed” were used as excuses for femicide. Murderers are the husbands, boyfriends, fathers, sons, brother of those women; in short, they are killed by their relatives.
