Diyarbakir Bar Association turned to prosecution, since there was no proper crime scene investigation, the police officers who were shooting are still on duty and there is no suspect in the investigation file.
The investigation on murder of Tahir Elçi, the Chair of Diyarbakir Bar Association, continues. Diyarbakir Bar Association turned to prosecution, since there was no proper crime scene investigation, the police officers who were shooting are still on duty and there is no suspect in the investigation file. Moreover, it turned out that the witnesses who were heard as a part of the investigation haven’t seen the moment of shooting.
The people who were on the street when Elçi was murdered were heard as witnesses. All journalists, lawyers and police officers who were seen at the crime scene testified. They said that they haven’t seen the moment of shooting.
It is stated that some police officers who work for intelligence office were also shooting a video during the press statement of Tahir Elçi. However, the officer who was responsible for shooting a video on the crime scene claimed that he laid flat when the clashes started and his camera stopped working. Moreover, the police took the security footages of the post office and a restaurant, but they are not included in the investigation file yet.
Bekir Bozdağ, the Minister of Justice, stated that 83 evidences were recorded, pictures and footages were taken, and 71 possible evidences were sent to experts for examination by the investigating prosecutors.
A petition submitted
Diyarbakir Bar Association submitted a petition to prosecution. In the petition, it is pointed out that since the suspects are police officers, an investigation carried by the police contradicts with the principle of impartiality and they demanded that the gendarmerie carry the investigation.
