A call to Duma from Armenians in Russia

Union of Armenians in Russia declared that they support the bill on the denial of Armenian Genocide that is brought in the Russian parliament and made a call to Duma.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, the President of the Union of Armenians in Russia Ara Abrahamian said: “The Union of Armenians in Russia supports this bill completely and believes that it is necessary to improve the safety in Russia.” He also made a call to the representatives in Duma and asked them to support this important bill.

For preventing another massacre

Here are the highlights of the statements of the President of the Union of Armenians in Russia Ara Abrahamian:

“If this bill passes, a serious and systematic mechanism would be constituted in Russia that could prevent the denial of the genocide and the distortion of the historical facts. Disinformation in media would be prevented, and the briber journalists and all kinds of “experts” and public officials can no longer misguide people in Russia and damage the memories of the victims. It would also constitute a firm ground which prevents Turkey from committing a similar massacre.”

Heavy penalty for denial

If this bill passes into law, the people who deny the genocide in public places will pay up to 300.000 rubles fine or do community service or be sentenced to prison up to 3 years.

If the person who denies the genocide is a public official or declares the denial through mainstream media organs, that person will pay a fine in the range of 100.000 to 500.000 rubles or do community service or be sentenced to prison up to 5 years.
